Simply Gooch looks a ready made winner with a very bright future.
He was almost withdrawn due to the firm ground, but Willie decided to run and told Patrick not to try and lie up with the pace and to ride him as he found him. If he had been closer he would have been in the shake up, the winner hung across him costing him momentum and ground. He was only beaten 3 lengths and the time was quick (2 secs below standard). He gave both the 1st and the 3rd 7lbs and the 2nd 5lbs, He was the only one in the first 4 without a run under his belt & it was 5 lengths back to the 5th.
Although he had done plenty of work at home he had a really good blow after the race and both Willie and Patrick were delighted with him and he has come out of the race well.

He’s not over big but like his half brother Woodbine Willie, he will definitely jump a fence in time he is definitely a 3 mile chaser in the making. It’s still quite early on in his serious work, but he is doing everything that we are asking of him very easily. He has a great attitude to his work and is a very relaxed horse… I like him.
